HOUSE REPORTS (1961-62)

ABBOTS HOUSE REPORT

CONGRATULATIONS, Abbots, on the successful completion of a second hat-trick of championship wins. It is obvious from this year's results and the fact that the strength of the House lies in the Senior section, that we shall be hard pressed next year to achieve a third hat-trick. A strong House spirit has again seen us through, but this can and must be increased next year, especially in the junior sections.

The seniors warranting special mention are Bulgin and Sanderson who were great assets in all games. Among the juniors, Cassidy showed considerable promise for the future..

BEC HOUSE REPORT

THIS year we have to report the reluctant withdrawal of Mr. Clarke from the House, owing to the responsibilities of his new position as Senior Master. The House is very grateful to him for his services in the past, and wishes him every success in the future. The House welcomes Mr. Chalmers as a new assistant Housemaster.

The year started disastrously for Bec House, when in the Rugby Competition the best result we could achieve was a third place by the Juniors.

Labouring under this shock, the Senior and Middle cross-country teams dropped slightly on performance compared with last year's results, achieving second and fourth positions respectively. It remained for the Juniors to rally the House.

In the Gymnastics Competition we achieved equal first place, and both our athletics and cricket results were good.

In the House Championship, however, we could only hold our usual second position. If we had got off to a better start to the year we should have constituted a very real threat to Abbots' supremacy.

KEVERE HOUSE REPORT

AT the beginning of the school year under review Mr. Easom became Housemaster in place of Mr. Richardson, who left the school the previous summer. We are grateful to Mr. Richardson for the good. work he has done during his six years in office.

The final result of the House Championship this year was very close, but Kevere was again relegated to fourth place. Great credit is due to the juniors of the House, however, for gaining 110 of our 290 points.

The biggest disappointment of the year was our poor final position in the athletics competition. There seems to have been a lack of enthusiasm and determination among our athletes.

There are signs, however, that Kevere House is beginning to realise that championships are not easily won, and there is every hope for a more successful year in 1962-63.

R. J. BUTTERFIELD.

KING'S HOUSE REPORT

KING's House could achieve only third place in the House Championship this year, despite the fact that the Middle teams carried off the laurels for cricket, rugby and athletics. One of the main reasons for their success in athletics was the large number of entries.

The Seniors were able to match the high standard of the Middle teams in rugby only, where we were joint champions with Abbots House. Among the Juniors only the cricket team met with any success. They won their competition.

In conclusion, we welcome Messrs. Dunsmore and Dye to the House, and hope that Mr. Owen is prospering in his new post, and that Mr. Tilbrook is enjoying his adventures abroad.
