Chess 1975

By Mr Mark Fountain

The Chess Team had a slightly disappointing season, losing the Hillingdon Borough Shield to Bishopshalt after holding it for three years, and reaching only the third round of the Sunday Times Competition before succumbing to Copland High School, who went on to the final of the zone. Generally, the standard of team play was not as high as in years past owing to a decline of interest by the players, which was reflected in their lack of practice. It must be said in their defence however, that matches proved to be difficult to arrange and they were more than once let down by opponents who failed to turn up or postponed games at the last minute. My thanks are due to the two Taffels, Dickins, Woodall, Shapiro, Moutrie and Runegall who have played regularly for the school. It should also be pointed out that Taffel, Dickins, Woodall and Shapiro also play regularly for Middlesex Juniors, and that in Moutrie the school has acquired a fine prospect for the future.
