A VISIT TO THE BRITISH MUSEUM

By M E TIMPERLEY, 1A

On Tuesday, 2nd June, a party of boys from 1A and ID went to the British Muscuin, accompanied by Messrs. Phillips and Appleby. We left school, after having had an early lunch. We spent two hours in the Museum with Mr. Leigh-Browne, who talked to us about the various ancient specimens. First we saw busts of famous Greek philosophers such as Demosthenes and Socrates, and then we saw parts of the 524 ft. long frieze that was around the Parthenon in Athens. We also saw the statue of Mausolus, and sections from the Mausoleum. Finally we were shown the Rosetta Stone and viewed some valuable stamps in the Library. Altogether we had a very enjoyable and interesting afternoon.
