GOLF 1968

By Mr. P. J. Cahill

Although the School can take little credit for their achievement, we are very proud of the performance of N. Marsden and T. Wooding, who retained the London Schools' Golf Championship at Fulwell Golf Club on Wednesday, 3rd July.

Marsden, who was an England boy International last year and who has played regularly for the Middlesex Senior County side this season, also retained his Individual title with a magnificent round of 69. He narrowly missed a longish putt on the last green which would have given him a share in the course record held by Peter Oosterhuis, the Walker Cup player.

Wooding was disappointed with his round of 88, particularly as he had done 76 (to Marsden's 75!) in the practice round on the previous day. Nevertheless, their combined total was easily good enough to win the handsome silver salver, the runners-up being Epsom College, seven strokes behind.

In recognition of the above achievements, and of his services to Athletics, Marsden was awarded the "Harris" Trophy for 1967-8. This cup was donated to the School by one of its first Old Boys, A. T. Harris, and is given to the boy who has brought most credit to the School in his particular sport or sports, both by his personal performance and by his attitude to the game, his opponents and his team-mates.
