GOLF 1971-72

By J. Mellor

The school team (C. Simmonds and J. Mellor) returned a score of 178 in the London Schools Golf Championship at Fulwell Golf Club in July, and unfortunately finished well down the field.

Chris Simmonds, despite not having played at Fulwell before, was very disappointed with his score of 96 which fell far below his normal high standard. My own round of 82 left me dissatisfied, since good driving should have produced better results. However, some poor iron play and an inability to master the greens, which both Simmonds and I experienced, marred what could have been a good round.

With young golfers in the school, in particular M. Tinsley, improving all the time, and Simmonds having gained valuable experience, the school should be able to mount a strong challenge in future years and perhaps repeat the success of the past.
