THE SCHOOL COMPUTER – 1974

By Anon (possibly Mr. Thacker)

Thanks to the efforts of C.U.R.E., a non-profit making organisation (based at the Charles Keene College of Further Education, Leicester) which supplies redundant computers to schools, technical colleges etc., the School has acquired an Elliott 803. Its arrival was something of an event, not only for Mr. Thacker and his colleagues in the Mathematics Department, but also for a number of members of the then fourth form, who helped to manhandle several massive pieces of "hardware" up four flights of steps and into room N, which, the Borough Engineer assures us, is structurally able to bear the weight. The Parents' Association has very kindly agreed to pay for the transport, wiring and commissioning, and we hope that the first computer in a Hillingdon School will be operative by the time this magazine is published.
