School Building Project 07
(1962)

"School Building Project" refers to the construction of the JCR (Junior Common Room)

For the third year in succession we ask you to support the Saint Nicholas Fair, which is again on behalf of the school building project.

During the last two years this ambitious project has been beset with difficulties, obstacles and in some cases apathy which, at times, has greatly discouraged those people most closely concerned with the responsibility of steering the project to a complete, and immensely useful conclusion.

Now the building is up for all to see and for the boys of Saint Nicholas to use. As the boys, the Parents' Association and the Old Boys' Association begin to exploit fully the building's possibilities it would be as well to reflect that in striving after such a rare amenity, one which official sources would never provide, both the school and the Parents' Association have been accused of 'money grabbing'. Perhaps those who made this discouraging comment will realise that they are really attacking the ambition of the school to do the very best for all its pupils.

Those of you who have so kindly supported us by buying this programme will also understand our wish to pay back those parents who have generously lent money on behalf of the building project. We therefore make no apology for the enthusiasm, or the haste, with which we wear down this particular millstone.

However, a minority will always exist which disapproves of such efforts. All we can hope is that if they do not positively contribute they may at least recognise that our ambitions were of a reasonably selfless kind expressed at a time when so many expect so much to be handed to them 'on a plate' without even working for it.

We hope you have a very enjoyable time and thank you once again for your support.
