Mr Ralph Birch was one of our most popular teachers. He joined in September 1969 as Head of History from Northgate Grammar School, Ipswich, leaving some 16 years later, at the end of 1985. For much of his time at St. Nicholas, he was also House Master (Abbots). He left for a similar role at Haberdashers Girls - a role he fulfilled until retiring in 1992. He passed away in October 2018.
