THE ST. NICHOLAS PARENTS' ASSOCIATION – 1967

THE PARENTS' ASSOCIATION

President: The Headmaster
Chairman 1965-66: W. H. Kinnerley, Esq.
Chairman 1966-67: K. S. Allen, Esq

Now that the debt on the Junior Common Room has been fully paid, we have been able to turn our thoughts to other projects, individually not so spectacular, but collectively as important. We have been able to satisfy a number of urgent needs - £160 for another dinghy, £150 for a set of timpani and other musical Instruments and £50 for the games department. We have also given the Old Boys £150 as a first instalment to help them start a fund for a ground and club house, and have made a donation of 10 guineas to Voluntary Service Overseas, in which three former pupils have already served.

The Fair of last summer, with a profit of £546, provided the funds for these donations. The experience of past years helped to make it another great success. and our thanks are due not only to the willing band of parents but also to the Old Boys, who for the first time gave a great deal of help with the outside stalls.

Among other very enjoyable functions were the Dinner Dance last April, a Cheese and Wine Party in December organised by Mrs. Henderson, and during February a well-conducted Film Show of recent School activities.

There have been two disappointments. The Car Rally has had to disappear from our programme because of the new regulations, which make the organisation of this event practically impossible. Secondly, we are sorry that the Padrams have been unable to put on their yearly show. With the departure of Mr. Winter they are without a producer and there is a shortage of new talent.

The success of the past year is largely due to the hard work and enthusiasm of Mr. Kinnerley and his Committee and we wish our new Chairman, Mr. Allen, and his Committee success in their work in the current year. Our thanks are also due to the ladies of the Catering Committee, and in particular to Mrs. Launder, the Chairman, who left the district in the summer of 1966.

May I conclude with a few words to our first and second-year parents? If you will join in the fun by helping with our activities you will be helping to provide additional equipment and amenities for the School and so enriching your boys' education. Furthermore, you will surely make friends in the process, and time has shown that such friendships last well beyond the time a boy is at the School.
