THE ST. NICHOLAS PARENTS' ASSOCIATION – 1971/72

By Mr. L. HALE, Chairman

This year has been another successful year for the Parents' Association, not only for the social events it has provided, but in its progress and membership which has now reached over 600. This is an admirable achievement for a school of about 700 boys and shows that, not only are the parents interested in the academic education of their sons, but that they are keen to take part in the social activities which the Parents' Association provides.

Over the past year we have spent a large sum of money to provide facilities for the boys, thanks to the overwhelming financial support by parents at our social functions. Money has been donated to the school sailing club for maintenance of their boats. Over £200 was given to the school for new drama properties and new curtains. 40 new chairs have been provided for the J.C.R. A complete new loud- speaker system was purchased at a cost of over £300, and this can be used both inside and outside for social activities, school functions and sports days.

When the new Committee took office last October we decided to make our main target for this year the purchasing of a 16-seater Mini-bus, and this we achieved. The school bus will be a great asset to the boys and not only can it be used for sports events, but it will enable activities to take place which could not easily have been undertaken on public transport or by hire of coaches.

I am particularly pleased to see a greater participation from the boys this year, notably on the day of the Fair, and it is most satisfying to see that our efforts are appreciated by those for whose benefit the Association works so hard.

Members of the school staff have also helped to make the social events a success and I must mention the excellent work put in by Mr. Charleston whose drive and enthusiasm was responsible for the sale of over £400 worth of Fair programmes.

Finally I should like to express my thanks to all my colleagues of the Executive Committee without whose help and hard work many of our achievements would not have been possible. It has been a pleasure to make my own contribution to the Association and I wish it even greater successes and goodwill in the future.

L. Hale, Chairman.
